Concept & Vision
The concept of A Pedreira was inspired by the natural stone landscapes of Madeira, reflecting a dialogue between modern architecture and raw materiality. The goal was to design a home that embraces nature rather than competes with it.
The architectural layout is fluid and open, designed to maximize natural light and connect the interior with the outdoors. The large windows frame the surrounding landscape, transforming it into part of the home’s visual language.
This residence embodies “quiet luxury” — elegance without excess, detail without noise. Every line, surface, and texture has a clear purpose.
Materials & Textures
Stone is the central character in this project. Walls, floors, and surfaces are defined by locally sourced stone, creating a tactile, grounded aesthetic. To balance the raw texture, warm wood accents, soft textiles, and subtle lighting were introduced, creating contrast and warmth.
Lighting plays a crucial role: during the day, sunlight reveals every nuance of the stone’s texture. At night, ambient and accent lighting highlight architectural details, creating a calm and immersive atmosphere.
Interior Experience
The interior design focuses on minimalism with character. The living room features low, sculptural furniture that respects the space’s openness. Neutral tones amplify the feeling of lightness and serenity.
The kitchen is functional yet sculptural, with stone countertops and integrated cabinetry that disappear into the architecture.
